Luckily we were able to go swimming by 7am. Like polar bearing, (Marion even graced us with some “a la scaloosh!) but much hotter and we had been up for 3 hours already. Yup, wake up time still seems to be about 3:30am.

Off to town

Old military base that was now a site for education and remembrance. This teaching what WWII is, what prisoners of war are and what a sculpture dedicated to the massacre of said POWs is…its tough! Thank you teachers for tackling such things. Perhaps at more appropriate ages…hope I’m not scarring my kids!

Next down to the Palawan Bay walk, meandered our way down through neighborhoods of corrugated tin homes and bamboo fences topped with plastic bottles (confused me as these seemed to make the fence tops safer rather than what I’ve seen in other countries with fences topped by broken glass as deterrent). Also saw some beautiful mural/graffiti style wall art:

We all worried I wouldn’t be able to handle the heat, but we may have forgotten that while they brown up easy, these are PNW girls, good sports but young and the heat is definitely something we’re going to need some time to acclimate to. And all the walking.

We revived in the AC of the grocery store and it helped to have hot dog and cocktail samples (would I like to try a flavored margarita? Why yes please and salamat). Step up that game Costco!

We also watched what seemed a TV gameshow-esque everything half off event where a wide variety of goods were put out and then some selected folk were let loose:
I admired a bit the focus of the one lady getting only 2liter cokes. Think she walked away with at least 50!
